Same Sex marriage

It's been in the news frequently. Lately we have the ruling by a federal judge on the California law banning such. It is not in the best interest to have decided this way.

In our modern society we are making a decision to divorce the body from the person. A person is often considered no more than a consciousness or mind or heart that does not relate to a physical body. Thus, as long as we love one another the body doesn't matter. Whether it is two men, two women, one man ,one woman, all we need is love.

In one sense, true. Moms love their daughters. Fathers love their sons. Brothers love (or at least should) their brothers. Two friends of the same sex can love each other. No law can be made to ensure this or forbid this. To love another is good and just. But the question is not love, it is marriage. Does marriage demand something other than love?

If all marriage requires is love, than ANY two people can marry — two men, two women, sisters or brothers can marry, parent or child, etc. If love is all we need it makes no sense to prohibit any two people from marrying. Some will say that no one will take it this far. On the contrary! Some once said that no one will want an abortion just because a child is a boy or girl. But they do!! People will take same sex marriage this far. Over and over again human behavior moves to the extremes. In the name of false compassion we often allow the extreme. If a boy is not desired, than abortion is a perfectly viable option.

When two men or women have a desire to love each other and feel compelled to express that sexually why prohibit them? Why not allow them to marry just like a man and woman? Marriage is not just about this man or this woman. Marriage is a fundamental building block of all societies in the history of mankind. It is the bringing together of man and woman for mutual love and procreation of children.

My body is the external expression of my personhood. I am an embodied soul or an ensouled body. Both formulas are appropriate. It is obvious that a man's  body was designed to join to a woman's body. It is here that some will say that complementariness (completeness) of masculine and feminine don't matter as long as you love the other. On the contrary! To be quite frank about this, a man CANNOT join his body to another man's sexual parts. It is physically impossible. So also for the female. What our bodies are designed to do, cannot be done.

Same sex marriage falsely pretends to treat people the same. If a man and a woman can, why not man and man? Stated very simply, they are not the same. Other sex marriage is based on more than love. What's the difference? A lot!!
